Beloved

When I designed my font Beloved, it was born from an idea of simplicity. To eschew decoration and let the core design speak for itself. I wanted to show the clean construction of beautiful and unadorned letterforms in their most essential form. I'll be honest — I wanted to show off my skills as a lettering artist — that I had a deep, intimate understanding of how these letterforms should look and let them be naked.

Beloved ended up being a challenging design. Because I was only using a mono-linear style, each outline had to be absolutely perfect. Any flaws would be immediately visible and distracting. It was a design that trained my eyes to spot the smallest imperfection and figure out how to fix it.

Beyond that, I also wanted to create a style that sang of romance and loveliness with the air of chic informality. I like to think of this style as the sans serif version of a script font, marrying simplicity with style.
